Happy New Years! Mold and Survey Progress Update!

Happy New Years, Dear Backer!
Just 6 short months ago, you helped this project get fully funded and in the time since, we've steadily been working towards realizing the fruits of this grand effort! It's been an awesome endeavor to share with you, and we here at Brick Mini want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your excitement and support for this second wave of Nano Soldiers!
Surveys
There are still roughly 100 surveys that need to be completed. If you've been receiving reminder emails to follow up on your survey, it's likely that you need to finalize your survey. I noticed a few surveys where the backer selected their kickstarter pledge rewards, but did not complete the rest of the survey after that point.
Here's a quick walkthrough of the Backerkit survey for those who might find it helpful:
Step 1. Questions: (step is highlighted at the top) This section is for selecting colors for your kickstarter rewards. After selecting all colors, a validation question will come last to let you know you're entering the add-ons section of the survey. Click the "Next: Add-ons" button to continue to the next step.
Step 2. Add-ons: After selecting your kickstarter reward colors, and verifying that you understand you're being taken to the add-ons page, Backerkit will then present you with our selection of add-ons. You don't need to purchase add-ons if you prefer not to; however, at this point your survey has not been completed. Whether or not you decide to purchase add-ons, you need to then click the NEXT button on the right-hand side under your order balance.
Step 3. Shipping: Next, Backerkit will ask you for your shipping address. You'll be able to update your shipping address whenever you need. At a certain time in the future we will be locking shipping addresses and at that point you will no longer be able to update your address. However, we will let you know before we lock addresses in an update.
Backerkit asks for a phone number for shipping security (for instance if the shipping company needs to contact you regarding your package). We will never use your phone number to contact you. This field does need to be filled, but if you are uncomfortable putting your number down, you can put in a series of '0's (one for each digit of your phone number) and backerkit should recognize it. By doing this, you knowingly are dismissing any potential phone-related contact that your shipping company may need to complete your order, and you also agree to not hold Brick Mini liable for issues that may arise as a result.
Step 4. Confirmation: After clicking 'Next' on the Shipping page, Backerkit asks you to look over your entire order one last time for confirmation. During this step you will also be paying for any outstanding balance from any selected add-ons, applicable taxes, and for your shipping. Only once you have clicked "Place My Order" is your survey actually complete.
Locking Surveys
We've still got a few months before we'll need to lock orders, and we don't have a set date for that either. You are welcome to edit your order up until that time comes. That being said it is helpful to have most -- if not all -- of the surveys completed sooner rather than later. This way we can have more accurate counts of add-ons and we can be sure to order all necessary parts for kits earlier.
Mold Progress
Finally, we're excited to share some in-progress photos of some of the many molds needed to complete this project!
Above is a mold that will be making some of our black-colored pieces. This mold half still has a long way to go, and it's admittedly hard to make out much from the image.
In the upper-middle, you'll notice a large, round hole. This is the main sprue through which molten plastic is fed into the mold.
Branching off to the left and the right of this sprue, are the primary runner channels. Runners deliver the molten plastic from the sprue to secondary or 'sub'-runners which finally deliver the plastic into the individual cavities
On the whole upper side of the mold are several cavities that are undergoing their initial machining step.
On the left-middle, you'll notice what looks like an upside-down "Y". This is one of many secondary runners. Though the cavities at the end of this subrunner are very hard to make out, these cavities will form the mini machine gun parts!
In the very middle of the mold are several cylindrical cavities - these will form the wheels for the motorcyle, sidecar and jeep!
The initial machining phase for the mold above is done. You can probably guess what this mold is for - the parachute canopy! This part is so large relative to the other pieces that it requires a much higher injection pressure. This means that it needed it's own private mold.
These two images above show other mold components that don't typically get seen - did you know that a single injection mold like the ones for this project can easily have around 100 parts or more? between slide actions, ejection pins and more, these things are far more complex than first meets the eye.
We hope to show more progress pictures as we receive them, but we hope these images get you as excited as they made us!
In the Months to Come...
There's still quite a bit of work to be done. As stated in the last update, our estimated delivery has necessarily changed. At this time, the end of May is looking like a more achievable delivery window. We'll keep you apprised of any adjustments to that estimate as pieces come together and the picture becomes more and more clear for us. By this time next month, if all goes well, we'll have some physical samples to show off -- I can't wait!
Help Us Decide Upcoming Brick Mini Endeavors!
We're excited to innovate on all kinds of new designs for this coming year, and of course we want to continue to populate this Nano-scale world we've begun.
Please take a moment and answer this one-question poll to let us know what nano-themes you'd like us to work on next! Or, if you want something completely different, feel free to choose the 'Other' option and tell us exactly what you'd like to see (the more specific you can be, the better!)
